Progresses on Composite Systems of Microspheres and Three-dimensional Scaffolds for Controlled Release of Growth Factors
Composite systems of microspheres and three-dimensional scaffolds obtained by combining growth factor-containing microspheres and three-dimensional tissue engineering scaffolds can spatiotemporally and sequentially control release of various growth factors
meeting the need of different growth factors at different stages of new tissue formation. In this paper
the preparation methods of microsphere-scaffold systems are summarized based on the merits and drawbacks of microspheres and scaffolds for growth factor-release carriers. Three methods are included
i.e.
bottom up
post-seeding method and directly incorporating method. Research progresses and developments in the composite systems of microspheres and three-dimensional scaffolds for controlled growth factor release in ideal tissue regeneration are reviewed in detail. The drug release mechanism
challenges and development potential of the composite systems of microspheres and three-dimensional scaffolds are also mentioned.
