Polylactic acid is a widely used biodegradable material
which
together with its copolymers
are now among the most important biomedical materials. Due to the shortage of polylactic acid (PLA) as a biomedical material
their applications in biomedicine engineering have been limited. The studies on the modifications of PLA are attractive to the researchers in this field. In this paper
recent research progress in modifications of PLA is summarized. After these processing
the mechanical
degradation
hydrophilic and bioactive properties of PLA may be improved and the demands for the biomedical application can be met.
