Cyclodextrin-based nano-drug delivery systems include cyclodextrin-containing polymers
amphiphilic cyclodextrins
hydrophobic cyclodextrins and cyclodextrin-based supermolecular complexes. These nano-drug delivery systems can serve as multi-functional drug carriers
through the formation of inclusion complex or the form of cyclodextrin-drug conjugate. Moreover
they may significantly improve the physicochemical and biological properties of the free drug
enhance the therapeutic efficiency and reduce toxic side effects. This article reviews the recent research progress in cyclodextrin-based nano-drug delivery systems.
