The treatment of simulation wastewater containing partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) by Fenton’s reagent (a mixture of H

and Fe

) oxidation processes was carried out in a batch reactor. The effect of operating conditions such as the concentration of H

the concentration of Fe
2+
temperature
reaction time and pH value on the efficiency of Fenton oxidation processes had been optimized. It was demonstrated that Fenton’s reagent can effectively oxidate simulation HPAM wastewater. The results showed that the removal rate of HPAM and COD
Cr
were 87.61% and 82.60%
respectively
under the optimum conditions of H

5.3mmol/L
Fe

1.44mmol/L
temperature 30℃
reaction time 15min
pH value from 3 to 4. The FTIR spectrum indicated that the amide group of HPAM was oxidized into carboxyl group.
