Regularity and Mechanism of Organophosphate Salt Typed Nucleating Agent on the Nucleation of Poly(propylene)
Organophosphate salt typed nucleating agent is of good performance on nucleated poly(propylene)(PP). The crystallization temperature of PP containing organophosphate salt(such as sodium 2
2’-methylene-bis-(4
6-di-tert-butylphenyl)phosphate) is increased remarkably
and the properties including thermal distortion temperature
rigidity and especially transparency of PP products can be improved significantly. Therefore
it attracts a lot of interests of many researchers devoting to the development of this typed nucleating agent. Research about nucleation mechanism will provide a theoretical basis for designing new and highly efficient nucleators in the future. However
by far
nucleation mechanism concerning to organophosphate salt on PP has not been illustrated clearly. Two explanations have been proposed on how nucleating agent accelerates nucleation. The most popular one insists that "epitaxy" between nucleating agent and polymer crystals controls the nucleation. The other one insists that suppression of mobility of molecular chains by adding nucleating agent controls the nucleation. The focus of this review is on the progress of nucleation mechanism of nucleators on PP
with special emphasis given to the development of nucleation regularity and mechanism of organophosphate salt typed nucleating agent on PP. The future prospect of nucleation mechanism is foreseen in the last.
