The dynamics of jet falling process during melt electrospinning was studied using high-speed camera. Phenolic microspheres were chosen as marking particles of the flying jets to observe and measure the falling distance and draw ratio. The results showed that it was three dimensional dynamic process with whipping motion and had three stages of plummeting stage
unstable stage and curing stage. Changes of swinging angle
swinging radius and deposition area of experimental resultant fibrous film during the jet falling process under different applied voltages were studied. It was found that whipping motion of flying jets was suppressed with the increase of the applied voltage. Stretching and thinning mechanism of the flying jets were also investigated. It was found that the flying jets underwent three distinct morphological changes
namely stretching from one end
tug of war-style stretching and solidification.
