Study on the Differences in Photodegradation Behavior of Polyethylene Microporous Films with Different Thicknesses
This study aims to investigate the changes in the properties of microporous polyethylene films with varying thicknesses during photodegradation. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)
scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)
and a universal testing machine were employed to analyze the effects of different exposure time on the surface morphology
chemical functional groups
melting point
crystallinity
and Young’s modulus of the films. The results showed that during the initial and final stages of the experiment
there was no significant difference in the rate of change of the carbonyl index between the microporous films of different thicknesses. However
from the 2nd to 8th day of the experiment
there was a slight difference in the rate of increase in the carbonyl index between microporous films thicker than 1 μm and those thinner than 1 μm. In terms of mechanical properties
the 150-nm thick polyethylene microporous film exhibited the most significant loss in Young’s modulus after photodegradation
with a 78.51% reduction after six days of exposure. The photodegradation of microporous polyethylene films is influenced by factors such as the internal pore size
fiber diameter
crystallinity
and the ability of the film to absorb light. Under similar carbonyl index conditions
the mechanical properties of microporous films with thicknesses less than 1 μm degraded more severely after photodegradation.
