Poly(amino acid)s have been extensively studied in biomedical applications
due to their excellent biocompatibility
biodegradability and various side groups for further functionalization. Poly (aspartic acid) can be synthesized by thermal polycondensation of L-aspartic acid
which is easily controlled and not costly. Its metabolites are non-toxic and would not produce toxic side effects to the surrounding tissue
liver
kidney
and red blood cells. It would be a good candidate for preparing polypeptide derivatives and was widely studied as the drug carriers
tissue engineering materials
etc. In this paper
research on poly(aspartic acid)s in the field of biomedical materials in recent years was reviewed
and mainly focused on the design and synthesis of poly (alpha
beta-L-aspartic acid) derivatives and their biomedical properties.
