The poly (ethyl acrylate/2-ethylhexyl acylate/acrylic acid/methyl methacrylate) seed emulsion with solid content at 55% was prepared by ammonium persulfate-sodium bisulfite redox reaction. Then

a high solid content and low viscosity emulsion in which the solid content from 70% to 74% was obtained using the seeded emulsion as medium

sodium dodecyl sulfate and octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether as emulsifier

sodium bicarbonate as buffer and potassium persulfate as initiator to polymerize the target emulsion at 80 ℃. The results indicated that the obtained seed emulsion was broad peak in particle size

the particle diameter was 150〜300nm

which led to its low viscosity. The high solid content emulsion with a viscosity of 300〜900mPa•s at a shear rate of 20s

-1

was still wide distribution and the particle diameter was 350〜600nm. The sealant was made from the high solid content emulsion having advantages of short curing time

small shrinkage

great intensity.
