This paper reviewed the development of protein-based multilayer assemblies. The assembling mechanisms
building blocks and physical morphologies such as coating
microcapsule and nanotubes of the protein assemblies were introduced in detail. Their biomedical applications such as antibacteriality
anticoagulation
bioactive coatings
controlled drug delivery and bioseparation were summarized as well. The advantages as well as the future developments of the protein multilayer assemblies were also addressed.
