The property advantages of composite biomaterials used in biomedical fields are summarized from the view of improved mechanical properties and adjustable degradation rate as compared with a singlecomponent material. The research progress of composite biomaterials
especially those organic/inorganic composites used as bone implant materials is mainly reviewed in this article. It is suggested that incorporation of hydroxyapatite nanocrystals into biodegradable polyester matrix may produce new-type bone implant material which possesses excellent osteoconductivity and desirable biodegradability. The related researches represent the new research direction of organic/inorganic composite biomaterials.
