Biocompatibility of biomaterial surface draws many people' s attention in the biomaterials research field.This paper summarized recent progress in surface modification of silicone elastomer to create a biocompatible biomaterial surface.Chemical modification methods including bulk grafting
plasma treatment
photochemistry grafting
ozone-activated grafting as well as hydrosilylation and atom transfer radical polymerization were introduced. Nonspecific protein- and platelet- resistant properties of modified silicone elastomer surface were viewed
and the further research direction of silicone elastomer surface modification was also suggested.
