Dopamine could be oxidative self-polymerized under the weak alkaline condition
and formed surface-adherent polydopamine coatings onto a wide range of materials
including noble metals
metal oxides
inorganic and organic polymers and so on. Due to the special molecular structure of polydopamine coatings
secondary reactions could be used to create a variety of ad-layers and leaded to tailoring of the coatings for diverse functional uses. Besides
the functional materials surfaces also could be formed by one-pot strategy by the interaction of dopamine/polydopamine with the functional matter. In recent years
the two-step surface modification and one-step co-deposition surface modification methods based on polydopamine coatings were explored and applied in many areas. It is reported the latest research and application progress of polydopamine coating.
