Blood-contacting devices have been widely used in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease
which has the highest mortality rate in human beings. Blood compatibility is the most important evaluation index for blood-contacting materials. Improvement of blood compatibility is always the main task and central content for bloodcontacting biomaterials
which is of great significance to economic development
social progress and human health. Herein
the theoretical basis of blood compatibility are systematically reviewed. The improvement strategies (including biomimic
bioinert
and bioactive strategies) and composite techniques of blood compatible materials are emphatically described. In the summary
the perspectives of blood compatibility research are prospected.
