It is of great importance to improve the quality of training talents in engineering education in China by promoting the construction of new engineering disciplines

boosting the high degree of integration between major construction and industrial requirements

and enhancing the connotation of engineering education reform. The present study introduces the exploration

and preliminary achievement of talent training mode reform of polymer materials and engineering major of Ludong University under the background of new engineering disciplines construction. A series of measures such as the determination of training objective

optimization of education program

cultivation of teachers' engineering practice ability

establishment the cooperation between school and enterprise for talent training

monitoring of teaching process and sustaining improvement have been applied for the reform. The research has certain reference significance for the cultivation of high quality engineering talents of polymer materials and engineering major in local universities.
