Interest in organic nonlinear optical materials has grown tremendously in recent years. Some polarable organic molecules exhibit larger second order susceptibility
but only small amount materials show bulk susceptibility due to the limitation of crystalline symmetry. Poled polymeric technology can make a statistical noncentrosymmetric environment. After a brief introduction to the principles of organic nonlinear optics and the procedures of poling
the progresses of polymeric second order nonlinear optical materials are reviewed. In addition
the researches of third order nonlinear optical effect of polymer are reviewed
