Charge transfer phenomenon has attracted much attention due to its significance in academics and applications.A series of vinyl monomers bearing fluorophore moieties and their polymers were reviewed on their synthesis and photochemical behavior including fluorescence and photosensitizing behavior. The fluorescence intensity of these monomers are always dramatically lower than those of their corresponding polymers or copolymers at the same chromophore concentration.Such a phenomenon is termed as fluorescence "Structural Self- Quenching Effect" (SSQE)
which is caused by the intramolecular charge transfer interaction between electrondonor and electron-acceptor in the same molecule. For the SSQE of these monomers
carbon-carbon double bonds play an important role.Acrylic monomers bearing electron-donating chromophore moieties can be photopolymerized
as well as be used to initiate the photopolymerization of other monomers which do not have chromophores moieties.
