36 references were given to review the fibrous materials for biomedical application and their modification.Biologically-derived macromolecules and synthetic polymers including nondegradable and degradable polymers could be prepared into fibrous forms for surgical suture
wound dressings and tissue engineering scaffolds. Methods including polymer blending
crosslinking and surface modification of fibers such as plasma treatment
surface chemical reaction and polymer grafting were used to improve the mechanical properties
biocompatibility
cell adhesion of fibers and to promote new tissue formation around fibrous materials.
