Covalently cross-linking is a feasible and effective method to modify proton exchange membranes
which can not only suppress water swelling and methanol permeability but also enhance mechanical properties and chemical stability of membranes. The methods of covalent cross-linking and the properties of cross-linked membranes are discussed in details. The latest development of covalently cross-linked proton exchange membranes is also reviewed.
