Poly-ε-caprolactone(PCL) is a synthetic polyester with excellent biocompatibility
biodegradability
non-immunogenicity and non-toxic to human body. Due to its good compatibility with other polymers
it can be prepared into a variety of copolymers or blends with excellent properties. Therefore
research about PCL and its copolymers and blends as drug carriers have stolen the spotlight of synthetic macromolecular drug delivery systems. In addition
due to its long-term degradation in vivo
PCL used as materials for controlled release of drugs has already received US FDA’s approval. In this article
progresses in PCL synthesis and modification and its formulations of drug delivery system are reviewed.
