Bacterial infections threaten the life and health of human beings. Overuse of antibiotics and slow development of traditional antibiotics have caused the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria
driving the need to develop new antimicrobial compounds. Using chemical methods to synthesis antimicrobial polymers and construct the delivery systems for antimicrobial drugs plays a significant role in fighting against drug-resistant bacteria. In this work
the recent research progress in the design and synthesis of various antimicrobial polymers
as well as their preliminary application attempts were reviewed. And the future research directions of antimicrobial polymers in solving the bacterial resistance crisis were also prospected.
