The hydrogenated rosin-based hydroxylated polymer microspheres were prepared by suspension polymerization
using hydrogenated rosin derived glycidyl methacylate ester (HG) and styrene (St) as monomers
ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as a crosslinking agent
gelatin as a dispersing agent
azodiisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator. The structure and morphology of the polymer microspheres were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)
laser particle size analyzer
scanning electron microscope (SEM)
thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD). Effect of adsorption time on phenol adsorption capacity was investigated and the kinetic characteristics in adsorption process were also studied. The results showed that the hydrogenated rosinbased hydroxylated polymer microspheres have good spherical shape
thermal stability
uniform particle size distribution and an amorphous state. The adsorption capacity was 13 mg·g
-1
when the initial concentration of phenol was 100 mg·L
-1
solution pH was 7
the ratio of the solid to liquid at 1 g·L
-1
temperature was 303 K and adsorption time was 90 min. The adsorption of phenol on microspheres follows the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.
