Various dynamic behaviors of melts and concentrated solutions ot polymers rely on the typical interaction of long chain molecules-the entanglement. Remarkable progress has been made in this branch of polymer physics in recent years. Starting from the phenomena and basic concepts of entanglements we review the evolution from the network theory to the reptation model and emphasis the importance of the tube concept in segment scale to the new theory and the demand for a thorough investigation of the concept.
