Several important controlled radical polymerization systems developed recently were reviewed by combination of the published literature and the authors’ research results on atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) .In our laboratory
a wide range of novel block copolymers were synthesized by transformation of various mechanism polymerizations(e.g.anion
cation
telomerization and step-growth) to ATRP.A series of graft copolymers with controlled branched chains were prepared using halogenation
chloromethylation and ATRP methods. Wellcontrolled fluorinated random copolymers were obtained.Star(co) polymers were also synthesized via multi-functional initiator and coupling approach.In addition
some new catalyst systemswhich based on rare earth metal or using 1
10-phenanthroline and bis (2-dimethyl-amionethyl) ether as ligand
were developed.Poly (methyl methacrylate) with bimodal distribution
polystyrene with high melting point and thermoplastic elastomer (PSt-
b
- PBA-
b
-PSt) were prepared by emulsion "living" radical polymerization.Good prospects for living radical polymerization were also shown.
