By incorporating inorganic metal salts particles into nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR)
a novel vulcanization method was developed through the coordination reaction between the nitrile group (-CN) and metal ions in solid phase.A new non-covalent coordination crosslinking network system was established
which totally differs from traditional sulfur vulcanization approaches.Further more
the coordinated rubber materials were with excellent mechanical properties
which can be employed as flexible rubber materials as well as brittle or tough plastic materials. Two leading influencing factors of the coordination reaction
diameters of metal salts particles and acrylonitrile contents
were discussed in this paper. Some ways to improve the efficiency of coordination vulcanization were presented
such as adding crystal water and plasticizers etc.
