The surface of polymer medical material implants adsorbs bacteria to form biofilm lead to biomaterial related infection (BRI) represent a significant challenge to the application of polymer medical material. This paper introduced BRI mechanism
summarized the research of surface modification to reduce bacterial adhesion and antibacterial-biomaterial system. The recent advances of these two methods resistant the occurrence of BRI. Emphasize on local antibacterial sustained-release system and the application of nanotechnology in antibacterial sustained-release system. The research and application of polymer prodrug controlled-release system is the tendency of anti-infective polymer medical material.
