Chemical modification of pre-existing polymer materials by functional monomers has always been an object of great interest as it offers an effective route to address some low cost commodity shaped-materials to higher added value applications.With the aid of supercritical carbon dioxide
the monomers can be infused into the swollen polymer and polymerized to form heterogeneous polymer alloys.The development of the research on the bulk modification and grafting of polymer in supercritical CO
2
is reviewed.In this paper
supercritical CO
2
-swelling polymerization techniques and (γ)-ray preirradiation-induced graft copolymerization are introduced.
