Biomass is a class of abundant renewable resource.The high efficiency use of biomass not only has a great economic and ecological value
but also of great significance for the implementation of sustainable development strategies for new energy and new bio-based synthetic materials.2
5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) as a bio-based monomer
can be obtained now in mass amount from plant cellulose via simple bio-or chemical processes.FDCA can be used for the syntheses of the FDCA based polyesters.These polyesters have excellent properties and are regarded as bio-degradable potentially substitution materials for aromatic polyesters (such as PET)
which are synthesized from oil-based purified terephthalic acid (PTA).The properties and preparation methods of bio-based monomer FDCA are briefly summarized.The synthesis and properties of FDCA based polyesters
including poly(ethylene 2
5-furandicarboxylate) (PEF) and poly(1
4-butylene 2
5-furandicarboxylate) (PBF) are discussed.The progress of FDCA based polyesters application is introduced
and the expectations for the development and prospect of FDCA based polyesters are proposed.
