LI Run-lai. Development of Scatchard-Hildebrand Equation—as the Extensive Reading Materials[J]. Polymer Bulletin, 2023,36(10):1362-1365. DOI: 10.14028/j.cnki.1003-3726.2023.10.013.
The Scatchard-Hildebrand equation is one of the core components of the theory of regular solutions and nonelectrolyte solutions. It also links multiple key points of polymer physics such as the cohesion energy
solubility parameters and even the van der Waals equation. Although the derivation of the equation is not necessary and rare in textbooks
students demand more introduction to its origin and development history. Based on such introduction
students may better understand and utilize this equation. In this paper
the development and derivation process of the equation are summarized to assist the teaching. It serves as a supplementary to previous professional derivations
and a vivid introduction from the perspective of its inventors.
