Cellulose is a natural polymer with excellent mechanical properties
but its application is limited due to the very poor solubility and non-melting characteristics. Over the past 100 years
scientists have been continuously concentrating on the basic theories and processing methods of cellulose
and they have made significant progress in the construction of green cellulose dissolution systems and the analysis of dissolution mechanisms. However
there is still a lack of substantial breakthroughs on the thermoplastic processing of cellulose. The study of dynamic thermal analysis is an important method for investigating the glass transition and secondary transition behaviors of cellulose
and it is also an effective means to reveal the motion behavior of cellulose macromolecular chains at different scales. It can provide useful clues for achieving direct thermoplastic processing of cellulose. In this work
we briefly review the research advance in the glass transition behavior and thermal processing of natural cellulose
aiming to provide a more comprehensive perspective for in-depth understanding of the basic motion behavior of cellulose and to promote its large-scale application.
