This paper outlines seven membrane separation processes for liquid separation with polymer material membranes

i. e. ion exchange membrane and electrodialysis

reverse osmosis (hyperfiltration)

ultrafiltration

microfiltration

membrane extraction

pervaporation and membrane distilation. The principle

polymer membrane materials used

application and derelopmemt trend of each process have been simply elucidated. And the status as well as the perspective of membrane separation of China have been reviewed.
