Chitosan is one of the most abundant natural polymers and widely distributed in the cuticle of the crustacea such as shrimps and crabs. This biopolymer has very useful functional groups such as hydroxyl
amine and acetamide groups
so it can interact with transition metal ions. This review is a closer look at the absorption abilities
the adsorption mechanism
and structural on metal ions of chitosan and its derivatives.Based on current research
some new and futuristic approaches are thoroughly discussed. In this part
the recent studies on chitosan and its derivatives were reviewed mainly on their absorption abilities for metal ions.
