Polyurethane is the most widely studied and applied biomaterial for its excellent mechanical properties
good stability and reasonable biocompatibility at present. But its unsatisfactory biostability and biocompatibility result in limitation of application in the biomaterial fields.Because the biocompatibility of materials is positively correlated with its surface properties
the modification of the surface of polyurethane has been as an important research direction in the area. This paper introduces the structure characteristics and the development of synthesis of polyurethane as biomaterials. All kinds of them were analyzed in details. Then the modification methods of enhancing biostability and biocompatibility of polyurethane biomaterials were discussed.
