Ionic liquids (ILs) have attracted considerable attention and are widely used in the field of polymer science because of their negligible volatility
thermal stability
non-flammability
and high ionic conductivity. There is no a common theory or method defining the solvation of ILs like that of molecular solvents because of the complexity of the interactions between anion and cation of ILs. The compatibility of polymer and ILs can not be easily characterized using commonly accepted parameters. In order to address some primary rules behind the solubility phenomenon of polymers in ILs
the effects of different interactions between anion and cation on the solubility of different kinds of polymers in imidazolium ILs were discussed based on four interactions.
