A new multiwalled carbon nanotube/liquid crystalline polymer composite (MCNT/LCP) were prepared by situ polymerization
and then a series of polypropylene (PP) blends with different mass fraction of MCNT/LCP were blended using melting mixing at proper technical condition. The structures and liquid crystalline properties of MCNT/LCP obtained in this study were characterized by FT-IR
differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarizing optical microscopy (POM). The crystallization structure and kinetics of PP blends were investigated with wide angle X-ray diffraction (XRD) and DSC. The effect of MCNT/LCP content and crystallization temperature on the crystallization behavior of the PP blends was discussed. The experimental results showed that MCNT/LCP composite exhibited the fan-shaped texture of smectic phase
MCNT/LCP with low concentration in PP could play a role in the heterogeneous nucleation effect
and β-phase in PP was induced. In addition
the peak form of DSC cooling curves became more and more sharp
and the crystallization velocity and temperature were enhanced.
