cellulose pulp dissolved in quaternary ammonium/DMSO solution which is a new kind of ionic liquids. The viscosity of quaternary ammonium/DMSO/cellulose solutions at different concentrations was measured using a rotational viscometer. The results showed that when the concentration of cellulose was high and the degree of polymerization was high
the viscosity of the solution was more sensitive to temperature. The rheological properties of the solutions were determined by rheometry. The results showed that the quaternary ammonium/DMSO/cellulose solution was a shear-thinning fluid at all concentrations. The structural viscosity
non-Newtonian index
and viscous flow activation energy of the solutions were also discussed. Through analysis using the Arrhenius equation
the viscous flow activation energy of the solutions was hardly influenced by the solution concentrations.
