With the gradual implementation of the strategy of "accelerating the development of modern vocational education" and the deepening of the system reform of higher education in China

a large number of local universities are facing with the urgent task of the transition to the application-oriented university. The applied talent training mode of polymer materials and engineering major in Minjiang University was constructed from four aspects in recent years

the construction of specialty cluster

the design of talent cultivation program

the guidance on major recognition

and the construction of talent training platform. The explorations and achievements of this talent training mode construction was introduced in this paper

which may provide useful experience and reference to the applied talent cultivation of polymer materials and engineering major in local universities.
